In-Flight Movie: From A Different View
When Bruno isn’t busy in his home or garden, he enjoys movies. While our virtual flight could
have an in-flight movie, there’s not time to watch it as Bruno would watch it. He gleans inspiration from movies; however, he watches
movies much differently from most others. Whether it would be a movie like Top Gun, or The Aviator, he would pay attention to the
music and the way the soundtrack is synchronized with the images. Bruno would watch scenes over and over, stopping the movie abruptly
to replay certain parts. It’s not only about the storyline for Bruno; it’s all about the musical cues, the orchestra, or how the movie’s
music makes the movie come alive. Bruno states, “I can hear film scores on a DVD or even a music CD and I listen carefully because
it helps to find inspiration for when I need it most!” For our creative composer from Belgium, it’s more intriguing to find the musical
secrets hidden in a great movie score. The next time you watch Top Gun, watch it the way Bruno does … by listening to the musical
cues!
In-Flight Music: Hearing Is Believing!
As we travel north away from Wavre and back towards Brussels - it’s time for some in-flight
music! And this music is all composed by our pilot, Bruno! The music will be from his first CD Release, Aviation Music. Bruno Misonne’s
music is very unique. It all began by Bruno’s amazement with technology – specifically music sequencers. While Bruno was not trained
like many other musicians, his interest and creativity went to work immediately. He knew he would have to work hard everyday to get
better as a composer. After some early self doubts, Bruno began to notice he had a natural gift for composition, and it was within
this realm of technology that he began to piece together his gift.
Bruno challenged himself everyday while learning to synthesize
percussions and melodies. As Bruno progressed, he learned that just about anything can be an instrument. As a pilot and aficionado
of airplanes, he soon realized that each plane engine creating a unique sound can simply be considered like the sounds on a synthesizer.
At the same time, Misonne became more and more interested in the rich sounds of a symphonic orchestra and his latest release contains
a myriad of instruments from strings and woodwinds to brass sections. However, added to the orchestration are the various sounds of
aircraft. Bruno makes it work: hearing is believing!
With sequenced sound bites of air traffic control, and sounds of jet engines
and mechanical sounds, Bruno has seamlessly blended an aviation orchestra. While listening to the tracks on his album, such as “Tarmac
Activity” we can hear the heart pumping percussion and melodic sounds that make the listener feel the busy ground work of a flight
preparing for takeoff. With beautiful piano, and uplifting melodies, this track displays just how Bruno can take the listener on a
journey in their mind. Another interesting track is “Early Morning Landing at Heathrow.” This track blends beautiful horns and strings
with percussion gently rising to culminate in a landing, just as the title suggests. It was originally made for a superb video showing
a passenger’s window view in a 747 and you will notice a lot of synchronization during this landing. The video of “Early Morning Landing
at Heathrow” can be viewed on Bruno’s website.
Another track worth mentioning is “USS Nimitz.” This track brings a lot of visuals
to the listener. It starts with a crew member performing routine work while working in the mess hall of this huge aircraft carrier.
He’s obviously whistling a melody, which is taken over by clarinets playing exactly the same notes. Next we are taken to the bridge
hearing the sounds of many aircrafts including the plane elevator. There are plenty more tracks that will truly amaze a listener onAviation Music such as “Turbofan Adrenaline” and “Propeller Symphony.” All in all, Aviation Music contains twelve incredible tracks
in a compilation that soars as high as the melodies.
A Final Landing: Back to Brussels
As one can tell, Bruno is able to do what few
composers can do – take a listener on a virtual journey. Indeed, we’ve taken a virtual flight to get to know this composer, but it’s
time to land this flight. As we slowly descend in altitude, we look below to the airport in Brussels. While Bruno Misonne may not
like the busy city of Brussels, he loves the fact that it has an enormous airport, which means there are always many instruments for
Bruno to work with!
Whether it’s air traffic controllers and their voices and commands, or jet engines, or the even the drone of a
propeller – they’re not just machines anymore. They’re now instruments. Bruno Misonne has not only created these instruments, he has
a large group of mechanics working constantly to maintain and condition them at the airport in Brussels. As our gear touches down,
Bruno would like to welcome you to The Brussels Airport, where he “parks” his instruments. The Belgian composer’s music is refreshing,
unique. For Bruno Misonne – the sky is the limit on any virtual journey. Want to take a ride? Just cue his music!
